So Ron is doing the travel plans. We are going to head out from Sacramento on Sunday morning with the nine of us in two cars. We are going to try to get to Twin Falls, Idaho the first day, but we may get sidetracked so we didn't reserve a hotel. Pat and I may have to sleep in the car if we can't find one - but, hey, this is an adventure, right?

We have begun packing and buying camp food. Well, I should say the 'kids' are buying camp food. Pat and I plan to eat out and sleep in a hotel. We are too old to camp out. Breakfast of cereal and milk is fun when your 30, even if it is only 45 degrees outside. When you are in your 50s hot coffee and warm food is a necessity!

Everyone said that they want pictures and Debbie is talking about getting a blog on travelpod which makes it easier to upload pictures.

Anyway, I think everyone is getting excited about the trip. I know I am!

just drive

So do you all think that we should just go and see where it takes us? Yellowstone is quite large and I worry that I'll find something too far away.

West Yellowstone, ID

So I think that Dad and I would like to stay in a West Yellowstone hotel. These hotels have wireless internet. I think that the camp sites are further away. We can add several (3) children for the same price. This would mean that all of you would have to find a camp site. The Targhee National Forest with forest camping in something like a half hour away. The rooms are filling up fast. What do you think?

The other choice is to stay in Island Park which is 28 miles away from West yellowstone. We would stay in a cabin that holds 7. I have an email back to the person who owns the cabins to see if there is also camping sites.

Macks Inn is only a year old and 22 miles from Yellowstone. There are RV sites too in case Brent and Lisa come.

our trip to yellowstone

I was going to make a wiki for this trip but I can't find a free one that all of us can access. So I am going to see if this will work.

You can put the cities in mapquest and see if you think this trip will fly.
Sacramento to Winnemucca, Nv - 4hours 25 minutes
Winnemucca, nv to Boise, ID 4 hours 48 minutes
Boise, ID to Butte, MT 6 hours 37 minutes
Butte, MT to Livingston, MT 1 hour 32 minutes
Livingston, MT through yellowstone to Flagg Ranch Resort, Moran, Wy
4 hours 4 minutes
Moran, Wy to Vernal , UT 7 hours 23 minutes
Vernal, ut to salt lake city, ut 3 hours
Salt lake city, ut to sacramento, ca 9 hours
camping in Flagg Ranch is really close to Yellowstone south gate and 45 miles from Old Faithful. Camping for 4 adults and 3 children is $55 a night though. Lodging is around $100 for 2 adults (Pat and I) - but the camp site and lodge are close together.

I have many more camp/lodge sites that I'm looking for.
